Crossed Lines – A Good Enough Novel

What feelings did you have as you read the story? Find some places that make you feel that way. Share and discuss these.
What does the opening scene tell you about the characters and how they relate to one another?
Choose a main character—
• Why do characters do what they do?
• Are their actions justified?
• Describe the dynamics between characters (in a
marriage, family, or friendship).
• How has the past shaped their lives?
• Do you admire or disapprove of them?
• Do they remind you of people you know?
Are the main characters dynamic—changing or maturing by the end of the book? Do they learn about themselves, how the world works and their role in it? Discuss what you think the main characters learned about their families, or their friends.
As readers, we get to know Oliver slowly, with his past only being revealed piece by piece. What surprised you about Oliver’s past and how it affected him.
How are your feelings and the feelings of a character in your book alike? How are they different?
What passages strike you as insightful, even profound? Perhaps a bit of dialog that's funny or poignant or that encapsulates a character? Maybe there's a particular comment that states the book's thematic concerns?
Describe a conflict between two characters (Oliver & Cami, Oliver & Lacey, Valentina & Lacey, Lacey & Tess, Oliver & Ali). How was it resolved? What did you learn about these characters?
Were there problems characters couldn’t solve? Identify one or two and explain why you think they weren’t resolved.
